CHANTILLY, VA, Mar 28, 2024—With Halloween behind us, we are well on our way to winter holidays. While you have likely already kicked on the heat and closed the windows, Scott MacDonald, President of RE/MAX Gateway offers five things to do to your home in November.
1. Clean the carpet or buff the floors. “The dust that built up over spring and summer can be irritating now that the windows are closed and you will be spending more time indoors,” says MacDonald. Plus, sprucing up the floors will automatically make your home more inviting for the holidays.
2. Pay attention to your closets. While you probably already switched over to your winter wardrobe, spend an hour organizing your closet, and your hallway or coat closets, as well. Make a pile for donating, clear out clutter and add organizational tools like hooks for those scarves and hats that always end up all over the floor.
3. Clear your gutters. The fall tends to stock your gutters and downspouts with an abundance of soggy leaves. “Be sure to clear a clean path so when snow or rain comes, water will have a clear exit off your roof,” MacDonald recommends.
4. Cozy it up. Switch your linens to flannel for cozy winter mornings. Add pine cones and festive wreaths to your centerpieces. Swap out those light tablecloths for wintery ones, and put up heavier window treatments to keep warm air inside.
5. Ready your winter living spaces. “While summer calls for time on the deck or porch, chilly months often draw us to different spots inside the home,” says MacDonald. Does your family love to spend evenings around the fireplace or watching movies in the den? Rearrange the furniture or add throw pillows and blankets to make for cozier nesting spots.
