FREDERICK, MD, Apr 25, 2024—Whether you're taking shots of your home to keep as mementos, embarking on a new career or helping out your listing agent, below are five tips for taking better real estate photos, from Kim Massett, REALTOR of Real Estate Teams, LLC.
Clear clutter. This should be a no-brainer, but be sure your home is properly staged before you hire a professional or pull out a camera.
Try a wide angle lens. A wide angle lens will allow you to capture more of your space, says Massett.
Use a tripod. A tripod can help stabilize your camera for a cleaner, steadier shot, and assist with low-light situations.
Adjust your camera settings. While every camera is different, if you're using a DSLR, the following should help: keep your shutter speed between 1/60 and ½ a second, your aperture between F8 and F11, and ISO under 400. Unsure what this means? You may want to hire a pro, or simply do a bit more research.
Shoot in magic hour. Dusk or dawn tends to provide the best natural light for shooting.
"Whatever you do, avoid mid-day, where bright harsh light can blow out your shot," says Massett.
