A fire in the home is a nightmare for anyone, but when you have small kids, it can feel even more disastrous. To help, the LookOut For Kids program offers some helpful dos and don'ts to protect your home and family from fires:DO
- Develop a family escape plan that includes two ways out of each room;
- Check your smoke detectors to make sure they are in working condition;
- Consider adding a carbon monoxide detector;
- Talk to your whole family about fire safety practices.
DON'T
- Apply energy-efficient films and coverings to windows designated in your family emergency plan as escape or rescue windows;
- Paint, nail or weather-strip windows shut.
