This year’s Memorial Day is expected to mark the highest travel volume in 10 years, with 37.2 million Americans set to journey to their destinations over the weekend, according to AAA. To boot, most drivers will pay the lowest Memorial Day gas prices in at least five years – a national average price of $2.66 per gallon.AAA attributes the surge in travelers to a number of economic factors that have boosted disposable income.
The majority of travelers will drive to their Memorial Day destinations. Of the total travelers, 2.6 million will fly, and 1.64 million will travel by trains or buses, or take a cruise.
For motorists, the three most common reasons for roadside trouble are dead batteries, flat tires and lockouts. To avoid a breakdown, inspect your vehicle thoroughly, paying special attention to the condition of your tires and battery, before heading out on a holiday getaway.
